Business for Sale by Christian Lockhart of Chris Hart Business Sales Ltd.

I have published this website with a view to promoting the purchase and sale of businesses throughout The highlands and Islands of Scotland

Small to medium size businesses play a vital part in the local economy as well whole of the country; in my view their importance is sadly overlooked by the Government, Banks and Authorities. A healthy small to medium size business sector helps reduce unemployment levels, boosts business for suppliers, manufacturers and the service industry as well as creating new opportunities.

I established Chris Hart Business Sales Ltd. in 1980 so I have an unrivaled experience of buying and selling a large variety of small to medium size concerns. I also have an in-depth knowledge of how many business sectors operate and what should be put in hand when buying to selling a business.

In my view when you are buying a business you should research it carefully, take advice from somebody who knows and understands the sector you wish to go into. Unfortunately there are far too many professional advisors who can provide theatrical advice that in practice is of little value. If you are planning to move to a new area I would spend some time in that area before making your acquisition to see that you will be happy living there.

The one thing you have to remember in buying a business it is not a 9-5 job it becomes a way of life; you will spend a great deal of your time and energy on this business so it is very important you enjoy it.

Over the many years I have sold businesses on behalf of clients I have found that in the vast majority of cases they are passionate about their business particularly those who have started it themselves so that when they come to sell it is a big decision for them that they do not take lightly.

If you are thinking of selling your business then my firm, Chris Hart Business Sales Ltd., will be pleased to be of assistance to you.

My advice to anyone selling a business is to research the market and to choose their agent carefully. There are a number of fly-by-night agencies who do no more than “a back of an envelope” valuation, want marketing costs upfront and thereafter you will never see the salesman again. You want to instruct an agency that has been long established where the person who inspects and provides the valuation of your business is the person that handles the transaction from start to finish. As that person is the best one qualified to deal with any questions a buyer might have on the business or its accounts. It is also important you have established a rapport and trust with that person who is after all handling the sale of probably one of your most important assets.
